Amati Global Investors announced in April 2023 that Anna Macdonald, co-manager of the TB Amati UK Listed Smaller Companies fund had departed the business.
Macdonald joined Amati and became a co-manager of the fund in 2018, focusing on analysing companies in the technology, food and beverage and media sectors.
The fund will continue to be managed by existing co-managers Paul Jourdan, Scott McKenzie and David Stevenson in line with the team-based approach. They also benefit from the support of analyst Gareth Blades.
They aim to deliver long-term growth by investing in the smaller parts of the UK stock market. The managers invest in companies they think can grow faster than their competitors, usually through carving out a niche in a growing market or disrupting others, though investing in smaller companies carries higher risk.
Our view
As part of our review, we have met with the team to understand how the fund may evolve going forwards and to assess changes to the responsibilities of team members.
While the departure is a loss for the team, we feel they continue to be well resourced for the task at hand. Jourdan, Stevenson and McKenzie each have significant investment experience and we view them as sensible stewards of the fund.
For this reason, we will retain the TB Amati UK Listed Smaller Companies fund on the Wealth Shortlist.
This isn’t a recommendation to make any changes to a portfolio. Investors should make sure any investments match their investment goals, attitude to risk and are held as part of a diversified portfolio. If you're not sure if an investment is suitable for your circumstances, please seek personal advice.
