Kevin Murphy, co-manager of the Schroder Income fund, is to leave Schroders to pursue an opportunity elsewhere.
Murphy will be replaced as co-manager of the fund by Nick Kirrage.
Kirrage is co-head of the global value team at Schroders and has been with the business for over 20 years. He initially joined the company as a pan European research analyst and has since managed a range of income and recovery strategies. This includes the Schroder Income fund which he managed for a 12-year period from 2010 to 2022.
To enable Nick Kirrage to focus primarily on the Value Team’s UK portfolios, he will formally relinquish co-management responsibilities on a number of global funds. These Global Funds will continue to be managed and run by Simon Adler and Liam Nunn.
Existing co-manager Andrew Evans will continue to manage the fund alongside Kirrage.
The fund aims to provide income and capital growth over the long term by investing in a diversified portfolio of UK companies. The fund has a distinct value style bias and the contrarian approach employed means it can look quite different to the index at times. The fund could diversify an income focused portfolio or offer value exposure to a more general portfolio.
Our View
While we are disappointed to see Murphy depart the business, we are pleased to see Kirrage return to the fund alongside Andrew Evans.
Kirrage has been an integral part of the global value team since co-founding it with Kevin Murphy in 2013. The global value team employ the same process across multiple regions and we have a positive view on their capabilities and experience.
Kirrage has significant experience of managing this fund and is highly familiar with the approach, therefore we do not expect any significant changes to the fund.
We have a positive view of Kirrage’s skillset, capabilities and experience and we will therefore retain Schroder Income on the Wealth Shortlist.
