Important notes

This article isn’t personal advice. If you’re not sure whether an investment is right for you please seek advice. If you choose to invest the value of your investment will rise and fall, so you could get back less than you put in.

Joseph Hill , Senior Investment Analyst

We’ve taken the decision to remove the Trojan Ethical Income fund from the Wealth Shortlist.

Hugo Ure, the fund’s manager, has left Troy Asset Management after 15 years with the business. Blake Hutchins has taken over as the fund’s manager, supported by Fergus McCorkell as assistant manager.

Hutchins joined Troy in 2019 from Investec Asset Management where he was lead manager of the UK Equity Income fund and co-manager of the Global Quality Equity Income fund. Prior to that, Hutchins managed UK equity funds at Columbia Threadneedle. Hutchins currently manages the Trojan Income fund at Troy, which uses the same style of investing as the Ethical Income fund, but without excluding certain companies based on ethical criteria.

Our view

Ure is an experienced investor who has made a significant contribution to Troy as manager of this fund, but also as Head of Responsible Investment until the end of 2022. In this role in particular he was important in establishing the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) policies and processes now in place.

While this fund invests in many of the same companies as the Income fund, Hutchins doesn’t have his own track record in managing an ethical fund.

Following Ure’s departure from the business, we feel it’s right to remove the fund from the Wealth Shortlist.

Although we're removing the fund from the Wealth Shortlist, this isn't a recommendation to make any changes to an investment portfolio. Investors should make sure any investments match their investment goals and attitude to risk and are held as part of a diversified portfolio. If you're not sure if an investment is suitable for your circumstances, please seek personal advice.
