Mitchells and Butlers’ like-for-like sales rose by 3.9% in the first quarter. Growth was especially strong over the festive season, but poor weather had an adverse impact on trading in the last weeks of the period.
Despite expecting around £100mn of additional costs, largely due to increased labour costs, the group remains confident of growing market share and profitability this year.
The shares rose 4.6% in early trading.
