Jupiter has announced upcoming fund manager changes for its range of European equity funds, including the Jupiter European fund.

Jupiter European has been managed by Mark Heslop and Mark Nichols since October 2019. They joined from Columbia Threadneedle where they both previously managed funds investing in European companies.

Jupiter has recently hired Niall Gallagher, Chris Sellers and Chris Legg, who currently manage European equity funds at GAM Investment Management. Lead fund manager Gallagher is expected to join Jupiter no later than June 2025, while his team will join before this in the spring, subject to negotiations. It’s expected that Jupiter’s existing range of European equity funds will be managed by the incoming team following a transition period, although Jupiter has not confirmed a timescale for this. It’s also expected that Heslop and Nichols will continue to manage the fund until this transition is completed.

The team at GAM currently manage the GAM Star Continental European Equity and GAM Star European Equity funds, so they have experience investing in European companies.

Gallagher has managed both funds since December 2009. Over this time, the Continental European Equity fund has grown 166.84%* and the European Equity fund has grown 154.82% compared with 132.49% for the average fund in the IA Europe ex UK sector. As always though, past performance isn’t a guide to future returns and, like all funds, there have been times when the fund hasn’t performed as well as the sector or the broader market.

As with any fund manager change, there will inevitably be changes to the way the Jupiter European fund is managed and its process once the new managers take over. We are yet to meet the new managers but will do in due course and find out more about what this will mean for the fund and investors.

The Jupiter European fund doesn’t currently feature on the Wealth Shortlist. We will continue to monitor performance and any changes and inform investors if our views change.
