How to transfer paper share certificates

If you hold paper share certificates and want to transfer them to a Fund and Share Account, we can help. Here's what you need to do.

Before you start

  • If you're new to HL, you will need to open a Fund and Share Account as part of the transfer process. This can take up to 48 hours, so please bear this in mind.
  • The name on the share certificates should match the name on the Fund and Share Account you’re transferring them to. 
  • You will need to send your original share certificates in the post. We recommend using recorded delivery when doing this. 

How to transfer if you already have a Fund and Share Account

  1. Go to the transfer page.  
  2. Select ‘Share certificates’ from the dropdown menu, then select ‘Next’.  
  3. Select 'Yes’ to having a Fund and Share Account with HL, then select ‘Next’.  
  4. Read the important information, Key Features and Terms and Conditions, and note down everything you need to transfer.  
  5. When you’re happy, select ‘Download form’.   
  6. Print out your form and sign it with a pen. 
  7. Post your share certificates and the form you signed (it must be the original, not a copy) to:

How to transfer if you do not have a Fund and Share Account

  1. Go to the transfer page.  
  2. Select ‘Share certificates’ from the dropdown menu, then select ‘Next’.  
  3. Select 'No’ when asked if you already have a Fund and Share Account with HL.  
  4. Select ‘Open a Fund and Share Account’.
  5. Select ‘Open an account’.  
  6. Read the important information, Key Features and Terms and Conditions about the Fund and Share Account, then select ‘Open a Fund and Share Account now’. 
  7. Complete the Fund and Share account application form online.
  8. Once you have completed your application, on the confirmation screen, select ‘Transfer now’.
  9. Complete the steps and download the transfer form.
  10. Print out your form and sign it with a pen.  
  11. Post your share certificates and the form you signed (it must be the original, not a copy) to:

What happens next

After we receive your form, it can take up to 5 working days for your transfer to complete. The shares will show as pending in your Fund and Share Account until they have settled. Once they have settled, you can sell them or move them to another account.
