How to change your National Insurance Number

Updating your personal details is easiest online, and only takes a few minutes. Here’s how to change your National Insurance Number.

Before you start

You should only update your National Insurance number if you’ve previously entered it incorrectly. It’s not possible to change it otherwise.

Log in online to see your accounts..
Select ‘Account settings’ from the tab list.
Select ‘Personal details and statement delivery’.
If you have two-factor authentication set up, you’ll be asked to enter your Online Password and the verification code we’ll send to your mobile number.
Select ‘Edit personal details’.
Enter your National Insurance number.
Select ‘Save’ to confirm your changes.

We’ll send you an email to confirm you’ve updated your details.

It may take a few hours for the changes you’ve made to take effect.
